Minnesota roads across the Twin Cities are turning slushy this morning as steady light snow falls over Minneapolis and St. Paul. Streetlights glow through flakes while plows move along major highways before the morning commute intensifies.

Snow continues across Hennepin and Ramsey counties, creating slick conditions on Interstate 94, I-35W, and Highway 62.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, much of central Minnesota will see 1 to 3 inches of snow, with locally higher totals possible across western Wisconsin.

Drivers across the metro should plan extra travel time. Reduced visibility and slushy lanes may slow traffic through the early hours of the day. Bridges and elevated roadways can become icy first.

Temperatures hover near 27°F, meaning snow may stick quickly to untreated pavement.

Conditions improve gradually later today as snowfall tapers and skies begin clearing across the region. High temperatures reach around 41°F, allowing some melting during the afternoon.

But another weather system is already being monitored.

Meteorologists are tracking a strong storm developing Thursday night into Friday, bringing another round of accumulating snow across Minnesota. Winds may also increase significantly with gusts between 40 and 50 mph, which could cause blowing snow and reduced visibility in open areas.

Travel could become difficult again late in the week as colder air returns behind the system.

Another round of snowfall is also possible during the March 14–15 weekend, with the potential for heavier snow across parts of the Upper Midwest.

For now, Twin Cities residents should expect slippery roads and changing conditions through the morning commute.
