New Hampshire – Low gray clouds hang over Manchester this morning as damp air settles across southern New Hampshire. Light rain and patchy fog will develop later, setting up a wetter stretch before colder air briefly flips precipitation to snow Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, temperatures hold near 47°F through the day with mostly cloudy skies and a 30 percent chance of rain after the afternoon commute. Patchy fog could form after 4 p.m., lowering visibility on roadways.

Drivers along I-93, I-293, and Route 101 should watch for slick pavement during evening travel. Light rainfall totals remain modest, generally a tenth of an inch or less.

Rain chances increase late tonight and into early Thursday. Meteorologists say showers may linger through the afternoon with temperatures near 50°F. Winds could gust near 25 mph as the system crosses southern New Hampshire.

As colder air pushes in Thursday evening, rain may briefly mix with wet snowflakes around Manchester and nearby towns including Bedford, Londonderry, and Hooksett. Little accumulation is expected, but falling temperatures could create slick spots.

This is the time of year when flash freezing sometimes occurs after wet roads cool quickly. Bridges and elevated ramps often freeze first. Use caution if traveling after sunset.

Conditions improve Friday with mostly sunny skies and highs near 43°F. Brisk air keeps the morning chilly, but sunshine returns across the Merrimack Valley.

Another unsettled stretch develops over the weekend. Snow showers could appear Saturday morning before partial clearing. A larger system may bring a rain and snow mix late Sunday into Monday.

Longer-range signals hint at warmer air building toward late March as spring approaches.
