Lake Village, Ind. – Emergency crews are responding to significant storm damage in Lake Village Tuesday night after a reported tornado struck parts of Newton County, damaging multiple homes and prompting officials to urge residents to stay away from the area.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, several homes in Lake Village were hit during the storm, leaving widespread damage as first responders moved in to assess the situation and secure affected neighborhoods.
Authorities say numerous emergency personnel are already on scene managing the response. Officials stressed that residents should not travel to Lake Village or attempt to assist, as additional traffic could interfere with rescue and damage assessment efforts.
Law enforcement indicated that while the damage is significant, there are currently no additional weather threats being reported in the immediate area. Crews are focused on evaluating the extent of the destruction and ensuring the safety of residents.
Lake Village is located in northwest Indiana near the Illinois state line, and storms moved through the region Tuesday evening amid widespread severe weather alerts across parts of the Midwest.
