Indianapolis, Indiana – A juvenile is currently recovering after a weekend hunting incident in Ripley County, Indiana.

The accident, involving a tree stand, is under investigation by the Indiana Conservation Officers. The incident occurred on private property near the 6000 block of County Road 800 South in Friendship. Reports indicate that while climbing into a tree stand, the juvenile hunter fell approximately 20 feet after the stand’s securing straps broke.

Despite the fall, the injuries sustained are non-life-threatening. The juvenile was airlifted in serious condition to a hospital in Cincinnati for treatment. Assisting in the response were the Friendship Fire Department, Ripley County Emergency Medical Services, and PHI Air Medical.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources emphasizes the need for hunters to wear full-body safety harnesses during such activities. More safety information and guidelines can be found at hunting.IN.gov.
