HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Showers and thunderstorms could develop across north Alabama Monday afternoon, with a low chance that a few storms become strong to severe.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a 40% to 60% chance of showers and storms is expected Monday afternoon and evening, mainly between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Forecasters say the greatest risk area may be along and west of Interstate 65, including communities across the Tennessee Valley.

While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could produce gusty to damaging winds, hail, and locally heavy rainfall that may lead to isolated flooding in low-lying areas.

Meteorologists say confidence in severe weather remains low, but residents should stay alert for changing conditions as storms develop.

Unsettled weather may continue through midweek. The National Weather Service says it is also monitoring a low to medium risk for severe storms Wednesday, though details on timing and impacts remain uncertain.

Officials encourage residents to stay weather aware, check forecast updates, and ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

The Monday afternoon timing could affect commuters and students traveling home during the late afternoon hours.
