Melbourne, Florida — Scattered thunderstorms could develop across east-central Florida later Sunday, particularly inland and near the Interstate 4 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, conditions will remain mostly dry through the morning before storm chances increase after about 2 p.m.

Forecasters say scattered lightning storms are possible late in the day, with the greatest coverage expected along and near the I-4 corridor, including areas around Orlando, Sanford, and Kissimmee.

Daytime high temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s across much of the region, including Orlando, Leesburg, and Sanford, while coastal communities such as Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Vero Beach could see highs in the low to mid-80s.

While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, storms could produce frequent lightning, brief heavy rain, and gusty winds.

In addition to storm chances, the National Weather Service warns that a high risk of life-threatening rip currents continues along east-central Florida beaches.

Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the surf or swim near lifeguards due to the dangerous currents.

Students, commuters, and visitors across the Orlando metro area and surrounding communities may want to monitor weather conditions late Sunday as storms develop.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with forecasts and alerts from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
