Richmond, Virginia — Dense fog and low clouds across parts of eastern Virginia Saturday morning are expected to gradually clear by late morning as warmer air returns inland.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a backdoor front will slowly lift north through the region during the day, allowing temperatures to rise across inland communities.
Morning conditions may remain cool, cloudy, and foggy, with reduced visibility possible during early travel hours.
By the afternoon, inland areas including Richmond, Petersburg, and Farmville could see temperatures climb into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, while coastal communities remain cooler.
Locations along the Eastern Shore and immediate coast, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Accomack, may stay in the 50s to lower 60s due to lingering cloud cover and marine influence.
Forecasters say the fog should dissipate by the late morning hours as the atmosphere warms and visibility improves.
Meteorologists also note there is a very low chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm late in the afternoon across the Piedmont, though most areas are expected to remain dry.
Drivers during the morning commute may encounter patchy dense fog and limited visibility, especially near rivers, coastal areas, and low-lying locations.
Warmer conditions are expected to continue through the afternoon before better rain chances arrive later tonight into Sunday, according to the forecast outlook.
