Corpus Christi, TX — Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible across South Texas Saturday afternoon through early Sunday, with large hail and damaging winds the main threats.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, storms could begin developing around 4 p.m. Saturday and continue through Sunday morning as unstable conditions support stronger thunderstorms.

Forecasters say the highest local severe weather risk level is 2 out of 5, meaning scattered severe storms are possible across parts of the region.

The primary hazards expected with stronger storms include:

  • Large hail greater than 2 inches in diameter
  • Damaging wind gusts between 60 and 80 mph

Heavy rain may also accompany some storms, which could lead to brief localized flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas.

Cities including Corpus Christi, Victoria, Kingsville, Beeville and Rockport may see storms develop Saturday evening as weather systems move across South Texas.

The National Weather Service advises residents to remain weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if storms strengthen quickly.

If severe storms form, impacts could include power outages, downed tree limbs and hazardous driving conditions during the evening and overnight hours.

Students, weekend workers and evening travelers across South Texas may want to keep weather alerts active as storms develop Saturday.
