Dallas, Texas – A Tornado Watch remains in effect for 25 counties across North Texas until 10 p.m. CST Friday, placing the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex at risk for tornadoes, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and large hail during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Tornado Watch 15 includes Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Grayson, Cooke, Parker, Wise, and surrounding counties as conditions support rotating supercells capable of producing tornadoes and significant wind damage.

Storms may intensify rapidly before sunset.

Major travel corridors including Interstate 35E, Interstate 35W, Interstate 20, and Interstate 30 could see sudden road condition changes if warnings are issued. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field may experience temporary ground delays. North Texas Tollway Authority roads, including the Dallas North Tollway and President George Bush Turnpike, could also face travel impacts.

Residents should identify a sturdy interior shelter now and secure loose outdoor objects.

The strongest tornado potential is expected before 9 p.m., with storms shifting east overnight toward East Texas and Arkansas. Additional thunderstorms may redevelop overnight into early Saturday as the system advances.

The Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CST Friday.
