PEORIA, Ill. — An 18-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting Thursday on Peoria’s South Stanley Avenue.

According to the Peoria Police Department, dispatchers received a report at approximately 4:36 p.m. Thursday that a private vehicle transporting a gunshot victim was traveling from the south end of the city to a local hospital.

Officers from the department’s Special Investigations Division (SID), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and patrol units located the vehicle during the response. Police observed the vehicle had a rear window that had been shot out and followed it to the hospital.

Once at the hospital, officers made contact with three occupants inside the vehicle, including the victim.

Police said the 18-year-old female victim was treated for a single gunshot wound to the upper right portion of her back. Authorities reported the injury was non-life-threatening.

Investigators later determined the shooting occurred while the victim was sitting inside a vehicle in the 1500 block of South Stanley Avenue.

Officers responded to the location and secured the area as a crime scene while investigators gathered evidence, according to police.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities said no suspect information has been released at this time.
