Michigan – Damp pavement and low gray clouds hang over Grand Rapids this morning as light rain drifts across western Michigan. Patchy fog clings to low valleys and riverfront roads, slowing early traffic across Kent County.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, scattered showers continue through the morning with rain coverage increasing by midday. A few thunderstorms may develop after early afternoon as warmer air pushes into western Michigan. Rain chances reach around 90 percent, with totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches possible.

Drivers along US-131, I-196, and the I-96 corridor should plan for changing road conditions through the afternoon. Brief heavier showers could reduce visibility while gusts approach 20 mph during passing storms.

Showers continue into the evening before gradually weakening later tonight. Additional rain and isolated thunderstorms may redevelop during the late evening hours as the next disturbance moves across the Great Lakes.

Saturday stays unsettled early. Scattered showers remain possible through the morning while breezy southwest winds gust near 35 mph across open areas of western Michigan. Temperatures briefly climb into the mid-60s before cooler air arrives later in the day.

By Sunday, skies clear and sunshine returns across the region. High temperatures settle near 56 degrees, offering a calm and pleasant day across Grand Rapids and surrounding communities.

Early Sunday morning also marks the start of Daylight Saving Time, when clocks jump forward one hour at 2 a.m. The change brings brighter evenings as March progresses.

The warming trend resumes early next week. Monday looks sunny with highs near 64 degrees, and milder air may continue building across the Midwest later next week.

Meteorologists note early-spring temperature swings can sometimes create flash freezing at night if daytime moisture refreezes on bridges and overpasses.
