Indiana – Headlights blur through thick fog across Indianapolis this morning as light drizzle coats pavement across central Indiana. Visibility drops sharply in spots, forcing drivers to slow along major routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning, with visibility falling near 0.1 to 0.25 miles in parts of Marion County. The fog gradually thins as temperatures rise and winds begin to mix the air.
Commuters along I-65, I-70, and I-465 are seeing the biggest impacts early today. Wet pavement and patchy fog may create sudden visibility drops near interchanges and bridges.
Skies remain mostly cloudy through the late morning. By afternoon, warmer air pushes into central Indiana and could trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures climb to a spring-like 77 degrees, nearly 20 degrees above average for early March.
Meteorologists say the next round of widespread rain arrives during the weekend. Showers become likely Saturday, with rain coverage near 100 percent and gusty southwest winds approaching 25 mph.
Travel conditions could briefly worsen during heavier downpours Saturday morning and early afternoon. Drivers should allow extra time if heading out across Indianapolis or surrounding counties.
Conditions improve quickly afterward. Sunshine returns Sunday with highs near 61 degrees, bringing calmer weather across central Indiana.
Early Sunday morning also marks the start of Daylight Saving Time. Clocks jump forward one hour at 2 a.m., bringing brighter evenings through the coming weeks.
Another warming push arrives early next week. Monday looks sunny with highs near 71 degrees, and additional mild weather may develop across the Midwest through mid-March.
Meteorologists also note that early spring temperature swings sometimes create flash freezing after sunset if daytime moisture refreezes on bridges.
