Oklahoma – Flags snap in gusty south winds across Oklahoma City this morning as warm March air surges into central Oklahoma. Clouds drift overhead while the first storm chances of the day begin to develop across the metro.

Drivers along I-35, I-40, and the Kilpatrick Turnpike may notice changing skies through midday as scattered thunderstorms begin forming across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, showers and thunderstorms could develop between noon and mid-afternoon, with a 40 percent chance of storms across Oklahoma City. South winds may gust up to 33 mph, creating brief travel issues during heavier showers.

The storms should remain scattered, but brief downpours and lightning may occur across parts of Oklahoma County. Drivers should watch for slick pavement during passing showers, especially on elevated roadways.

Conditions improve quickly heading into the weekend. Sunshine returns Saturday with highs near 58 degrees, bringing calmer weather after the brief storm threat.

Clear skies dominate Sunday with highs around 71 degrees across Oklahoma City and much of central Oklahoma.

Early Sunday morning also marks the start of Daylight Saving Time, when clocks spring forward one hour at 2 a.m. The shift brings brighter evenings and a noticeable push toward spring.

The warming trend strengthens quickly afterward. Monday looks sunny and warm with highs near 81 degrees, far above early March averages.

Meteorologists say the warm pattern could continue through the middle of next week before another round of showers arrives Tuesday across central Oklahoma.

The rapid swings between warm days and cooler nights can sometimes create slick conditions when moisture lingers on bridges and overpasses.
