According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, temperatures will surge to around 80°F this afternoon, far above normal for early March. A few isolated showers or thunderstorms could form between mid-afternoon and early evening.
Drivers traveling across Mecklenburg County should stay alert for brief downpours that could quickly dampen roads. Interstates I-77, I-85, and I-485 may see sudden visibility drops if storms develop.
Most of the day stays partly sunny and warm. South-southwest winds will slowly increase while humidity climbs across the Piedmont.
Tonight remains mild with temperatures near 62°F under partly cloudy skies. Patchy fog could develop in low-lying areas before sunrise.
Saturday brings another warm day with highs near 78°F. A few isolated showers or storms could pop up again by afternoon, but many hours stay dry.
The weather turns more unsettled late in the weekend. Showers become more widespread Sunday, and a few thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon. Even with clouds and rain, highs still reach around 79°F.
Early Sunday morning also marks the seasonal clock change. Clocks spring forward at 2 a.m., giving the Carolinas longer daylight evenings.
Next week keeps the warm spring pattern going. Monday brings another round of scattered showers with highs near 80°F, and temperatures could climb into the low 80s by Tuesday.
