Indianapolis, Indiana – Showers and thunderstorms are expected across parts of Indiana from Friday through early Saturday, with a low-end risk for severe weather and ongoing river flooding in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in place across much of the state through Saturday.

Meteorologists say the primary window for stronger storms is late Friday night into early Saturday morning, though an isolated stronger storm cannot be ruled out earlier Friday evening.

The main threats from any stronger storms include damaging wind gusts and the possibility of an isolated tornado.

Cities including Indianapolis, Bloomington, Terre Haute, Muncie, and Seymour could see periods of showers and thunderstorms as the system moves through.

Drivers traveling along major routes such as Interstate 70, Interstate 65, Interstate 69, and Interstate 74 could encounter heavy rain, lightning, and brief reductions in visibility during thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, river flooding continues across parts of southern Indiana, particularly along the White River and the East Fork White River.

Recent rainfall has led to minor to moderate flooding along several rivers and tributaries, with major flooding reported near Seymour.

Flooding of local creeks and streams is also occurring in some areas.

Officials warn that some roadways may remain flooded or closed near rivers and low-lying areas, and drivers should avoid water-covered roads.

Residents across central and southern Indiana are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially overnight.

Forecasters will continue to track both storm development and river levels as conditions evolve through the weekend.
