Shreveport, Louisiana – Prolonged periods of heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding across parts of the Ark-La-Tex region Friday through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected to move across the Four-State region today, tonight, and into Saturday.

Forecasters say rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are likely, with locally higher amounts possible, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same areas.

The potential for excessive rainfall may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, creeks, and poor-drainage locations.

Communities including Shreveport, Texarkana, Longview, Tyler, and Nacogdoches could see heavy rain as the system moves through the region.

Areas along major highways such as Interstate 20, Interstate 30, and U.S. Highway 59 could experience water-covered roads and reduced visibility during periods of heavy rainfall.

The National Weather Service indicates that flash flooding could begin late Friday and continue into Saturday, depending on where the heaviest rain bands develop.

Even areas that typically do not flood may experience rapid water accumulation if intense rain falls over a short period of time.

Officials urge drivers to never attempt to drive through flooded roadways, as water depth and road damage may be difficult to see.

Residents across the Ark-La-Tex region should monitor weather alerts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions overnight and into Saturday.

Travelers and commuters may encounter delays, detours, or hazardous road conditions where heavy rainfall occurs.

Forecasters will continue to monitor rainfall totals and storm development as the system moves through the region.
