Binghamton, New York – Rain showers are moving out of the region Friday morning as a sharp temperature divide develops across parts of New York and Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a frontal boundary moving across the region will create a wide temperature spread Friday, with noticeably warmer conditions to the west and cooler temperatures farther east.

Morning showers are expected to gradually move out of the area early Friday, allowing drier conditions to develop through the rest of the day.

Communities west of the front, including Elmira and Ithaca, could see afternoon highs reach the upper 40s to mid-50s as warmer air moves in.

Meanwhile, locations farther east such as Binghamton, Scranton, and Oneonta may remain cooler, with highs generally in the upper 30s to low 40s.

The sharp contrast means some communities across the region could experience temperature differences of nearly 15 to 20 degrees within a few hours’ drive.

Cities along major travel routes such as Interstate 81, Interstate 86, and Interstate 88 may see noticeably different conditions depending on their location relative to the front.

Forecasters say the temperature divide is expected to remain in place through much of the day before conditions gradually even out later tonight.

Overnight temperatures Friday are expected to fall into the low to mid-30s across much of the region, with some slightly warmer readings farther west.

The dry weather is expected to continue after the morning showers depart, bringing improving travel conditions for commuters and daytime travelers.

Residents across the Southern Tier and nearby parts of Pennsylvania may notice rapid temperature changes depending on cloud cover and wind direction as the front shifts through the region.
