Billings, Montana – Snow spreading across southern Montana and northern Wyoming this evening could quickly create slick highways and reduced visibility before the Friday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, multiple Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from 5 p.m. this evening through Friday morning across foothill communities near the Beartooth and Bighorn ranges. Areas including Red Lodge, Roberts, Fishtail, Nye, and Roscoe could receive 2 to 6 inches of snow overnight, with higher totals possible along elevated terrain.
Around Livingston and Paradise Valley, snowfall totals of 1 to 4 inches with wind gusts up to 30 mph may create blowing snow on exposed roads, especially along Interstate 90 between Livingston and Big Timber.
Farther south and east, communities such as Sheridan, Ranchester, and Dayton in Wyoming may see up to 3 inches of snow through early Friday. The heaviest snowfall will occur in the Bighorn Mountains and Pryor Mountains, where 6 to 12 inches of accumulation and gusts to 35 mph could create difficult travel conditions along U.S. Highway 14 near Burgess Junction.
Drivers should slow down and check state 511 road services before traveling overnight or early Friday.
Snowfall will be heaviest late tonight before gradually tapering Friday morning in foothill areas, though mountain snowfall may persist into the afternoon.
