Oregon – Wind rattles signs and pushes across the rolling hills near Pendleton this morning as a Wind Advisory takes hold across northeast Oregon. The air feels brisk and unsettled as stronger gusts sweep down from the Blue Mountains.
Temperatures started the morning around 43°F, but the bigger concern today is the wind. Forecasters expect west winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph through the afternoon and early evening.
Drivers along Interstate 84, Highway 395, and open stretches of rural roads could feel strong crosswinds. High-profile vehicles, trucks, and RVs may struggle with sudden gusts, especially near exposed hills and passes.
Loose outdoor items may shift or blow around today. Tree limbs could snap in isolated spots, and a few localized power outages are possible as the strongest gusts move through the region.
Despite the wind, skies remain partly sunny at times. Afternoon temperatures rise to about 52°F, though the wind will make it feel cooler across the Columbia Basin and foothills.
Wind speeds gradually ease later tonight as temperatures drop near 34°F under partly cloudy skies.
The weather pattern improves heading toward the weekend. Friday remains mostly cloudy with scattered showers and highs around 55°F.
By Saturday, a quieter pattern returns with partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures near 63°F. Sunday stays mild and mostly cloudy with highs around 64°F.
Early Sunday morning also brings the Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks move forward one hour at 2 a.m., giving Oregon longer daylight evenings.
Looking ahead, meteorologists are watching colder air returning to parts of the Northwest early next week. That shift could bring rain changing to snow at times in higher terrain, though Pendleton itself should mainly see rain.
For now, the biggest impact today is the wind. Secure loose objects and allow extra caution if driving across open highways.
