Wyoming – A quiet start with crisp air and pale sunshine quickly gives way to unsettled skies across central Wyoming today. By afternoon, clouds thicken over Riverton and scattered rain showers begin developing. As colder air slides into the Wind River Basin, those showers could mix with wet snow by evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, temperatures climb into the lower 50s before precipitation develops after mid-afternoon. Southwest winds increase through the day, with gusts near 23 mph pushing across Fremont County and open stretches of US-26 and Wyoming Highway 789.
Rain becomes more widespread toward evening and may transition into snow showers as temperatures fall toward the upper 20s. Forecasters say little to no accumulation is expected in town, but bursts of wet snow could still create slick pavement on bridges and rural highways.
The unsettled pattern lingers into Friday morning. Snow showers remain possible before late morning, followed by breezy conditions through the afternoon. Highs struggle to reach the mid-40s, bringing a brief return to late-winter conditions across central Wyoming.
Conditions improve quickly heading into the weekend. Sunshine returns Saturday with highs near 51°F, offering a calmer and brighter stretch across the Wind River Basin.
Sunday continues the warming trend with sunny skies and highs pushing near 59°F. Early Sunday morning also marks the nationwide Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks jump ahead one hour at 2 a.m., bringing longer evening daylight across Wyoming.
Early next week looks even warmer. Highs rise into the lower 60s by Monday as a developing ridge builds across the Rockies, signaling the first real push of springlike weather.
Meteorologists say the warming trend could persist through mid-March as daylight rapidly increases across the region.
Traveling today or tonight? Watch for wet pavement and quick bursts of snow after sunset. What conditions are you seeing where you live?
