Colorado – Crisp air and pale sunshine greeted western Colorado early this morning, but changing skies could bring wet pavement and light snow before evening. Temperatures near 60°F by afternoon will quickly slip after sunset, allowing rain showers to mix with snow across the Grand Junction area. Drivers along I-70 and US-50 should watch for slick spots if bursts of snow develop later today.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a 30 percent chance of showers develops after mid-afternoon, with winds turning northwest and gusting near 25 mph. As colder air moves in, precipitation may shift to rain and snow this evening, especially after sunset. While accumulation looks light, even a dusting could create slick pavement on bridges and shaded roads.

Across Mesa County and nearby valleys, conditions remain fairly mild through midday. By evening, clouds thicken and temperatures fall toward the lower 30s. That’s when brief snow showers become possible, particularly north of town toward De Beque Canyon and along elevated stretches of I-70.

Friday stays cooler with highs only in the upper 40s. Periodic rain or snow showers could develop late morning into afternoon. Most areas see minimal accumulation, but wet snowflakes may mix in when temperatures hover near freezing.

The weekend turns sharply brighter. Sunshine dominates Saturday and Sunday with highs climbing into the 50s. Early Sunday morning also marks the nationwide clock change as Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m., pushing sunsets later and gradually adding nearly 90 minutes of daylight across Colorado during March.

Early next week hints at a stronger spring warm-up. Highs near the mid-60s return by Monday as drier air settles over the western slope.

Meteorologists are also watching a broader pattern shift that could bring unsettled weather back to parts of the Rockies and Midwest later next week.

Traveling later today or tonight? Keep headlights on during showers and watch for slick overpasses.
