Huntsville, Alabama – Drivers and residents across the Tennessee Valley should prepare for changing weather conditions as unusually warm temperatures and increasing storm chances develop through the weekend.

Temperatures across northern Alabama are expected to climb near 80 degrees Thursday afternoon, well above early-March averages. The warmth will continue Friday, with highs pushing into the upper 70s to lower 80s across communities including Huntsville, Decatur, Athens, and Scottsboro.

According to the National Weather Service, the warm and humid pattern will allow showers and thunderstorms to develop at times from Friday through Sunday, with the greatest coverage expected Saturday. Some storms could strengthen during the Saturday afternoon and evening hours, bringing a risk for damaging wind gusts across parts of northern Alabama.

Storm chances will increase along major travel corridors including Interstate 565 through Huntsville, Interstate 65 between Decatur and Athens, and U.S. Highway 72 stretching across the Tennessee Valley. Rainfall may create brief periods of reduced visibility and wet roadways for drivers heading into the weekend.

Saturday currently carries the highest concern for stronger thunderstorms, though the overall severe threat remains relatively low. Still, weather officials say isolated storms could produce gusty winds capable of downing small tree limbs or causing minor power outages.

By Sunday, cooler air will gradually move into the region, allowing temperatures to drop into the lower 70s while scattered rain showers continue across northern Alabama.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated weather alerts, especially Saturday when storms could become stronger during the evening hours. Having multiple ways to receive warnings—particularly overnight—can help ensure families remain prepared if conditions intensify across the Tennessee Valley.
