Memphis, Tennessee – Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to continue across the Mid-South through Friday before a weekend cold front brings widespread rain and thunderstorms to parts of Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri.

Temperatures across the region are forecast to climb 20 to 25 degrees above seasonal averages, with many communities approaching or exceeding 80 degrees by Friday afternoon. Cities including Memphis, Jackson, Oxford, and Tupelo could see record or near-record warmth during the peak of the warm spell.

Drivers along major highways such as Interstate 40, Interstate 55, and U.S. Highway 78 may experience dry and unusually warm conditions through Friday afternoon before the weather pattern begins to change heading into the weekend.

A cold front moving through the Mid-South will bring increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, with rain becoming more widespread as the system moves across the region. The highest rain chances are expected during the afternoon and evening hours Saturday, particularly across areas surrounding Memphis and along the I-40 corridor.

Communities across western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas could experience periods of moderate to heavy rain as the front moves through. Drivers should remain alert for wet roads, reduced visibility, and occasional lightning during heavier showers.

Before the front arrives, warm and humid air will remain in place, which could allow a few thunderstorms to develop ahead of the main rain shield. While severe weather is not guaranteed, isolated stronger storms cannot be ruled out in parts of the Mid-South.

Following the frontal passage, temperatures will gradually moderate into early next week, though warm and humid conditions may return again as additional moisture moves into the region.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on changing forecasts and prepare for a transition from record warmth to a wetter weekend across the Mid-South.
