Ohio – Rain taps steadily against windows across Columbus this morning while low clouds hang over central Ohio, signaling a soggy and potentially flooding day ahead.
A Flood Watch remains in effect through the afternoon as multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms move across the region. Forecasters warn that 1 to 2 inches of rain are likely, with localized totals approaching 3 inches in heavier storms.
The ground across central Ohio is already saturated. That means new rainfall could quickly run off into creeks, streams, and low-lying roadways.
Drivers traveling across I-70, I-71, and Route 315 should expect wet pavement, ponding water, and sudden bursts of heavy rain through the day. Visibility may also drop during heavier showers.
The National Weather Service says showers will continue through much of the day with near-certain rainfall coverage. Temperatures rise to around 65°F, creating mild but unsettled conditions across Columbus and surrounding communities including Grove City, Dublin, and Westerville.
Periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms continue into the evening before gradually easing later tonight.
Conditions improve somewhat heading into Friday. A few lingering showers or storms may develop early, but skies should slowly brighten with temperatures climbing to around 74°F.
The unsettled pattern is not finished yet. Another round of widespread showers arrives Saturday with rain likely and highs again in the mid-70s.
By Sunday, the pattern finally settles down. Sunshine returns with highs near 60°F, bringing a cooler but calmer end to the weekend.
Early Sunday morning also marks the Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks move forward one hour at 2 a.m., giving central Ohio longer daylight evenings.
Meteorologists say early next week may bring another warming trend, with highs pushing back into the upper 60s and low 70s.
For now, residents should watch for water pooling on roads and avoid driving through flooded areas.
