Florida – Bright sun over Tampa Bay this morning hides a developing round of showers and thunderstorms expected to build across the region later today.

Warm Gulf air and increasing humidity are fueling unstable conditions across west-central Florida. That setup could trigger scattered storms by early afternoon, especially across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Drivers along I-275, I-4, and the Veterans Expressway may encounter brief downpours or lightning later today as storms pop up during peak travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will climb to around 87°F, creating a hot and humid feel across Tampa.

Rainfall totals generally stay under 0.10 inch, though localized heavier bursts may develop under stronger storms.

Conditions gradually quiet down later tonight as storms fade. Temperatures remain mild with overnight lows near 68°F and partly cloudy skies.

The warm pattern continues through the weekend. Friday features another 50 percent chance of afternoon showers, with highs again reaching the upper 80s.

Saturday remains warm with temperatures near 88°F and only isolated afternoon storms possible. Skies turn clearer Saturday night across Tampa and nearby communities including St. Petersburg, Brandon, and Clearwater.

Sunday looks sunnier overall with just a 20 percent chance of passing showers and highs near 88°F.

Early Sunday morning also marks the Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks move forward one hour at 2 a.m., bringing noticeably longer evenings of daylight across Florida.

Meteorologists expect the warm stretch to continue into early next week. Sunshine dominates Monday with highs again near 88°F, reinforcing a strong early-spring warming trend across the Gulf Coast.

For now, keep an eye on skies this afternoon as storms could develop quickly.
