Delaware – Headlights glow through patches of fog across Wilmington this morning as damp air and steady March rain reduce visibility on roads across New Castle County.
Commuters along I-95, I-295, and Route 202 are already seeing slick pavement and mist drifting across bridges and low-lying areas. Visibility can shift quickly where fog thickens near the Christina River and Brandywine Creek.
According to the National Weather Service, rain remains likely through the morning with precipitation chances around 80 percent. Temperatures hover near 51°F by afternoon as light northeast winds between 5 and 10 mph keep the air cool and damp.
The steadiest rain fades later today, but low clouds and areas of fog linger into the evening hours. Drivers should allow extra distance between vehicles on wet highways and neighborhood streets.
Conditions improve heading into Friday. Patchy fog early will give way to mostly cloudy skies with highs near 49°F across Wilmington and nearby communities including Newark, Claymont, and Bear.
A shift toward milder weather begins during the weekend. Saturday turns mostly cloudy but warmer with highs reaching 62°F. A few scattered showers may develop late in the day.
Showers become more likely Saturday night before tapering early Sunday. Sunday afternoon turns brighter with temperatures climbing toward 66°F across northern Delaware.
Early Sunday morning also brings the Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks jump forward at 2 a.m., delivering longer daylight evenings as March progresses.
Meteorologists are also tracking a stronger warming trend early next week. Sunshine Monday could push highs into the mid-60s, while Tuesday may reach 73°F, signaling a growing stretch of early spring warmth.
For now, keep umbrellas handy and expect slick roads through the day.
