Rhode Island – Headlights cut through damp morning air across Providence as chilly rain and pockets of fog settle over city streets and highways.

Drivers along I-95, Route 6, and I-195 are already seeing slick pavement and reduced visibility. The combination of cold air and steady drizzle creates a gray, raw feel across the capital city.

According to the National Weather Service, rain remains likely through the day with precipitation chances near 60 percent and temperatures struggling to reach 37°F. Light easterly winds increase slightly through the afternoon, with occasional gusts approaching 20 mph.

Fog lingers through mid-morning before gradually thinning. Still, damp roads and low clouds could slow travel during the afternoon commute across Providence and nearby communities like Cranston, Pawtucket, and Warwick.

Rain continues into the evening and becomes steadier tonight as moisture deepens across southern New England. Temperatures fall toward the lower 30s, though most of the region should remain just warm enough to avoid widespread icing.

Clouds dominate Friday as additional light rain lingers. High temperatures remain cool near 36°F, keeping a late-winter chill in place.

Conditions finally improve heading into the weekend. Saturday stays cloudy but milder with highs near 49°F, signaling a gradual shift toward spring.

Sunday brings the biggest change. Temperatures climb toward 55°F and skies begin to brighten during the afternoon across Rhode Island.

Early Sunday morning also marks the Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks jump forward at 2 a.m., giving residents longer daylight evenings throughout March.

Meteorologists say the warming trend strengthens early next week. Sunshine returns Monday with highs approaching 57°F, and even warmer air may build into the region by midweek.

For now, expect wet roads and low visibility through the day. Allow extra time on bridges and highways during periods of rain.
