Manchester, New Hampshire – Roads across southern New Hampshire could turn slick Thursday evening as snow and sleet spread into the region, potentially disrupting the Friday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect at 6 p.m. Thursday and continues until 1 p.m. Friday for much of southern New Hampshire, including Hillsborough, Cheshire, and Rockingham counties.
Forecasters expect up to 3 inches of snow and sleet with around one-tenth inch of ice across inland areas such as Manchester, Nashua, Keene, Milford, Peterborough, and Goffstown. The mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain could quickly create slick conditions on untreated roads and side streets.
Closer to the coast, including Portsmouth, Hampton, Exeter, Salem, Derry, and Seabrook, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as wet snow and sleet, with up to 4 inches of accumulation possible before the system winds down Friday afternoon.
Icy patches are likely to develop overnight Thursday, especially on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads, which could slow the Friday morning commute across southern New Hampshire.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check road conditions through the New England 511 system before traveling.
The wintry mix is expected to taper off late Friday morning into early afternoon, though slick spots may persist even after precipitation ends.
