State College, Pa. – An active weather pattern will continue across the Mid-Atlantic through Thursday, with the heaviest rainfall expected in Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, steady rain today into tomorrow will bring the highest precipitation totals across much of central and eastern Pennsylvania. Forecast maps show widespread rainfall amounts approaching or exceeding one inch in some areas.
Forecasters said three-day river projections indicate isolated rises to action stage at this time, meaning some waterways could approach levels requiring monitoring.
There is also continued potential for flooding beyond three days along the North Branch of the Susquehanna River due to rainfall combined with snowmelt, officials said.
While widespread major flooding is not currently forecast, river levels will depend on how much rain falls and how quickly snowpack melts across northern portions of the basin.
Communities along the Susquehanna watershed and its tributaries are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and river gauges. Commuters in low-lying or flood-prone areas may encounter water-covered roads if heavier bands develop.
Additional updates will be issued as conditions evolve through Thursday.
