Fort Wayne, Ind. – Periods of rain will track across northern Indiana this week, with the heaviest and most consistent rainfall setting up south of US-24 and intensifying again by Thursday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service for Northern Indiana, warm and wet conditions will dominate through Saturday. Rain chances today are highest south of US-24, including areas near Marion, Muncie and Kokomo, where coverage may reach 60% to 80% at times. Farther north toward Fort Wayne and Auburn along I-69, rain will be more scattered early, but additional rounds arrive later this week.
Thursday stands out as the most widespread rain event, with probabilities climbing as high as 80% to 90% across much of the region. Showers and a few thunderstorms could produce brief heavy downpours, especially along I-69 and US-30. While widespread flooding is not expected at this time, ponding on roadways is possible during heavier bursts.
Temperatures will steadily climb through the week, reaching the upper 60s to near 70 degrees by Friday. That warmth will add instability, keeping periodic thunder chances in the forecast into Saturday.
Drivers should remain alert for sudden reductions in visibility during heavier showers and avoid water-covered roads. Allow extra travel time during peak rainfall periods, particularly Thursday afternoon and evening.
Additional rounds of rain are expected into the weekend, and updated statements may be issued if rainfall totals trend higher later this week.
