Marquette, Mich. – Patchy freezing drizzle could create slick spots on US-41 and M-28 through late Tuesday morning, especially on bridges and untreated back roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, there is about a 25% chance of freezing drizzle and flurries early Tuesday. Any drizzle that falls while surface temperatures hover near freezing may produce a light glaze of ice before readings climb into the mid-30s to low 40s this afternoon.

The greatest risk for slick travel will occur before noon, particularly on elevated surfaces across Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming. Along US-41 from Harvey north through the city of Marquette, drivers may encounter isolated icy patches where pavement temperatures lag behind air temperatures. M-28 east toward Munising could also see brief slick stretches during lighter precipitation.

While widespread impacts are not expected, even a thin glaze can lead to minor spinouts during the morning commute. School buses and early freight traffic should use caution on secondary roads and rural routes where treatment may be limited.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance and avoid sudden braking if drizzle develops. Use headlights in low visibility and remain alert for changing road conditions over short distances.

Temperatures are expected to rise steadily through the afternoon, allowing any icy spots to melt. No significant accumulation is anticipated, and travel conditions should improve by early afternoon as readings move safely above freezing.
