Wilmington, Ohio – Heavy rain will intensify across southwest and central Ohio by late Tuesday evening, with 2 to 3 inches possible along the I-71 and I-75 corridors before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, occasional rain will continue through the day Tuesday, but the heaviest rainfall is expected from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Many communities are likely to receive more than 1 inch of rain, with localized totals reaching 2 to 3 inches where steadier bands set up.

The greatest concern stretches from Cincinnati through Dayton and toward Columbus, including areas along I-71, I-75 and I-70. Urban and low-lying locations may experience ponding on roadways, especially during heavier downpours overnight. Smaller creeks and poor-drainage areas could see minor flooding if rainfall rates increase.

Drivers should remain alert for water collecting on highways, particularly on ramps and underpasses. Never drive through flooded roadways, as water depth can be difficult to judge in the dark. Allow extra travel time for the Wednesday morning commute and keep headlights on during heavy rain.

While widespread river flooding is not currently expected, repeated rounds of rain later this week could compound runoff concerns. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise Wednesday as the steadiest rain shifts east.

Additional flood advisories or statements may be issued if rainfall totals trend higher overnight.
