North Carolina’s Crystal Coast wakes up cool and breezy, with a northeast wind rippling across Bogue Sound and temperatures hovering near 47 degrees in Morehead City. The early chill won’t last long. Sunshine takes control through late morning, and a steady warm-up is underway.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, highs climb to near 67 degrees today under partly sunny skies. North winds ease from around 10 mph, becoming light and variable this afternoon. Roads remain dry, and visibility stays clear for coastal travel along U.S. 70 and N.C. 24.

Skies turn partly cloudy tonight with lows near 51. By midweek, the real March warm spell begins. Highs reach 71 degrees Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. Thursday edges even warmer, near 72 degrees, followed by 74 degrees Friday with abundant sunshine.

This steady warming trend delivers full Spring Vibes along the coast. Beach walks and outdoor plans look favorable through the end of the workweek. While strong storms rumble across parts of the southern Plains and Ohio Valley, eastern North Carolina remains on the quiet side of the pattern for now.

We spring clocks ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Longer daylight and a mild pattern dominate the 6- to 10-day outlook. Above-normal temperatures are likely to continue into early next week, keeping highs in the 70s across Carteret County.

If you’re heading out today, enjoy the calmer winds and building warmth. Are you noticing that early hint of spring in the air?
