Baltimore, Maryland – Snowfall in Maryland fell short of blockbuster status this winter, but persistent cold and several well-timed systems still left a mark across the state.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Eastern Region Headquarters, Baltimore recorded 15.6 inches of snow from December 2025 through February 2026. That ranks as the 56th snowiest winter since records began in 1871 and comes in just below the seasonal normal of 16.4 inches.

Temperatures told a bigger story. Baltimore’s average winter temperature landed at 32.8 degrees, noticeably colder than the normal 36.5 degrees. That colder pattern helped preserve snowpack after each event, particularly north and west of the city into Carroll and Baltimore counties, where shaded secondary roads stayed slick longer.

Statewide, Maryland experienced a series of coastal storms and inland systems that delivered light to moderate snowfall. While no single storm produced historic totals in Baltimore, several events created travel disruptions along Interstate 95, the Baltimore Beltway and portions of Interstate 83 during peak commute hours.

The late-February “Bombo Genesis” system strengthened offshore and delivered a final round of accumulating snow, helping push seasonal totals close to normal. Gusty winds during that system also reduced visibility at times near BWI Marshall Airport.

With 15.6 inches recorded, winter 2025-2026 will not go down as one of Baltimore’s snowiest, but colder-than-average temperatures ensured it still felt wintry across much of Maryland. Additional finalized seasonal summaries from the National Weather Service are expected in the coming weeks.
