Boston, Massachusetts – Snow piled up fast and often across Massachusetts this winter, and by the time crews cleared the final plowable snow in late February, Boston had locked in one of its snowiest seasons on record.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Eastern Region Headquarters, Boston recorded 60.9 inches of snow from December 2025 through February 2026, making it the ninth snowiest meteorological winter since records began in 1872. The seasonal snowfall crushed the normal winter total of 37.7 inches by more than 23 inches.

The city also averaged 29.3 degrees over the three-month period, colder than the normal 32.5 degrees. Persistent cold allowed snowpack to stick around longer than usual, especially across interior Middlesex and Worcester counties where secondary roads remained snow-covered for days after each event.

Statewide, repeated coastal systems and inland lows tracked close enough to deliver significant accumulation to eastern and central Massachusetts. The late-February “Bombo Genesis” storm intensified rapidly offshore and delivered a final round of heavy snow and wind that helped push seasonal totals into the top 10 ranking.

Boston logged multiple high-impact snow events that snarled travel on Interstate 93, Route 128 and the Massachusetts Turnpike. Logan International Airport reported several rounds of de-icing delays during peak snowfall periods.

With 60.9 inches now in the books, winter 2025-2026 stands firmly among Boston’s most wintry seasons. More detailed seasonal breakdowns from the National Weather Service are expected as final data is certified.
