Louisville, Kentucky – Wet pavement and reduced visibility could slow traffic along Interstate 64 and Interstate 65 within the next 24 hours as multiple systems move across Kentucky, bringing rounds of rain and a late-week thunder threat through Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a warm front lifting north will push temperatures above normal beginning Tuesday, with highs climbing through the 60s and into the lower 70s by Thursday and Friday. Several waves of rain are expected through the week, with occasional thunderstorms possible, especially late Thursday into Friday. Rainfall totals may reach 1 to 2 inches in parts of central Kentucky by the end of the week.
Roadways including I-264, I-265 and I-71 could see ponding during heavier showers, particularly during the morning and evening commutes. Urban areas in Jefferson County are more susceptible to brief street flooding where drainage systems become overwhelmed. While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, a few thunderstorms could produce gusty winds and brief downpours late in the week.
The warming trend will be noticeable after a cooler start to the week, increasing instability as additional systems track through the Ohio Valley. Drivers should allow extra travel time on wet roads and avoid sudden lane changes during heavier rain.
Showers will move in waves through Friday night, and additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorm coverage increases across the Louisville metro.
