Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania – Drivers in the Poconos should prepare for slick roads by 7 a.m. Tuesday as freezing rain and wet snow spread across higher elevations, threatening both the morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for Carbon and Monroe counties. Snow totals will stay under 1 inch, but ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch are possible, with the greatest icing above 1,500 feet.

Elevated stretches of Interstate 80, Route 209 near Jim Thorpe and Route 33 around Stroudsburg are especially vulnerable to icing. Higher terrain communities could remain near freezing through the afternoon, allowing slick spots to persist even as valley temperatures edge slightly higher.

PennDOT crews are expected to treat primary highways, but untreated secondary roads, bridges and parking lots may become hazardous. Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check 511PA for updated road conditions before traveling.

The advisory expires at 7 p.m. Tuesday, though additional updates could follow if colder air lingers in the higher elevations.
