Detroit, Mich. – Drivers across Southeast Michigan could hit slick patches on bridges and ramps along I-94 and I-75 before 9 a.m. Tuesday as light freezing drizzle develops during the early morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, temperatures will hover near 32 degrees late Monday night into early Tuesday, allowing a brief window for freezing drizzle before a transition to light rain by midday. The chance of precipitation ranges from 40 to 50 percent, with the greatest risk for slippery spots occurring before sunrise.
Highs Monday reach the mid-30s under mostly sunny skies, but cloud cover increases overnight. By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures climb into the low 40s across Detroit, Ann Arbor and Monroe, improving road conditions along major corridors including M-10, I-696 and US-23.
Flint and Saginaw may also see isolated slick areas early Tuesday, particularly on elevated roadways and untreated secondary streets. Port Huron and areas along I-94 toward the Thumb could briefly dip near freezing before warming above 32 degrees late morning.
Motorists should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and use caution on overpasses during the Tuesday morning commute. Even light glaze can create hazardous driving conditions in a short time.
Temperatures continue trending upward through midweek, reaching the 40s Wednesday and pushing into the 50s and possibly low 60s by late week into the weekend. Rain chances return periodically, but widespread wintry impacts appear limited after Tuesday morning. Additional updates may be issued if freezing drizzle coverage expands overnight.
