Davenport, Iowa – Drivers along I-80 and US-61 should prepare for slick spots late tonight as temperatures dip near 32 degrees north of Highway 20, creating a brief risk for freezing drizzle before steadier rain spreads in by sunrise Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, spotty freezing drizzle may develop in northern Iowa counties late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. While widespread icing is not expected, bridges and untreated roads could become slippery for a few hours before temperatures climb above freezing.

Rain chances increase Tuesday across the Quad Cities, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline and Rock Island. Afternoon highs reach the mid to upper 40s, transitioning any early slick spots to plain rain. Isolated thunderstorms are possible by late Tuesday and Wednesday, especially south of I-80, as warmer and more humid air pushes into eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois.

By Wednesday, highs rise into the upper 40s to mid-50s, then surge into the 60s and lower 70s by Friday. That rapid warmup may accelerate snowmelt in outlying rural areas and lead to ponding on roads during heavier downpours. US-67 and I-74 could see reduced visibility during passing showers and storms late week.

Motorists should use caution during the early Tuesday commute, particularly north of Highway 20, and remain alert for changing conditions through midweek as rain and isolated thunderstorms develop.

Mild, spring-like conditions hold through Friday, with periodic rain chances continuing into the weekend. Additional updates are possible if freezing drizzle becomes more widespread overnight.
