Springfield, IL – Illinois’ furbearer hunting season commences today, November 10, 2023, and will continue until February 15, 2024. This season includes hunting for bobcats, red and gray foxes, opossums, and raccoons.

Additionally, woodchuck hunting is allowed from June 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, except during the firearm deer seasons in counties that permit firearm deer hunting.

Hunters targeting bobcats must obtain a Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Permit prior to their hunt, with a strict limit of one bobcat per person per season. In the event of a successful hunt, a Bobcat Registration Permit is required within 48 hours. It is important to note that hunting bobcats in closed zones is strictly prohibited.

For those interested in hunting coyotes and striped skunks, these can be pursued year-round, barring the first and second firearm deer seasons in counties open to firearm deer hunting.

To ensure compliance with state regulations, hunters are advised to consult the Illinois Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations 2023-2024, available at: Illinois DNR Hunting and Trapping Digest.
