North Carolina – Light rain taps against windshields this morning, and gray skies stretch over Raleigh as a slow-moving system edges through the Triangle. Temperatures hover near 41 degrees, and damp pavement could catch drivers off guard through the midday hours.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers increase mainly after 3 p.m., with highs reaching 50 degrees. Northeastern winds gust up to 24 mph at times. Rain chances continue into the early morning hours Tuesday, though totals remain light at less than a tenth of an inch.
By Tuesday afternoon, clouds begin to thin and temperatures jump to 62 degrees. The real shift arrives midweek. Highs surge to 75 Wednesday under mostly sunny skies. Thursday pushes even warmer near 79, and Friday climbs to 82 degrees.
That’s a nearly 40-degree swing in just a few days.
Drivers should stay alert on U.S. 1, I-40, and I-440 during wet periods today. While ice is not a concern here, this is the time of year when rapid drying followed by cooler mornings can create isolated slick spots in shaded areas. Slow down on bridges and ramps.
Spring warmth dominates the extended outlook. Meteorologists now tracking amplified ridging expect above-normal temperatures to hold into early next week. The 6- to 10-day trend favors continued mild air across much of North Carolina.
One more seasonal note: clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Longer daylight is arriving fast, with nearly an extra hour gained this month.
