Bloomington, Indiana – Snow-covered roads are slowing drivers across central and south central Indiana early Monday as up to 2 inches of accumulation creates slick travel through 9 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday for Vigo, Clay, Owen, Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties. Light snow, occasionally mixed with sleet, will continue to coat untreated surfaces during the peak of the morning commute.
Communities including Terre Haute, Bloomington, Columbus and Seymour can expect 1 to 2 inches of snow. Bridges and overpasses along Interstate 70, State Road 37 and Interstate 65 are especially prone to icing. Even minor sleet mixing in can compact snow and reduce traction quickly before sunrise.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check Indiana 511 for real-time road conditions. Road crews are treating primary routes, but secondary roads may remain slick through mid-morning. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 9 a.m. as snowfall tapers and temperatures rise above freezing.
