St. Louis, Missouri – Drivers across eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois have just hours before wet snow begins falling at 6 p.m. Sunday, creating slick highways and reduced visibility ahead of the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 6 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday for St. Louis, St. Charles, and surrounding counties in Missouri, along with Madison, Jersey, Greene, Macoupin, Adams and Pike counties in Illinois. Most areas will see up to 1 inch of accumulation, but localized bands could drop 2 to 4 inches, especially north and west of St. Louis near Hannibal, Bowling Green and Quincy.
Roads may turn slushy within the first hour of steady snowfall, particularly on bridges and overpasses along I-64, I-70 and I-55. In St. Louis City and St. Louis County, temperatures hovering near freezing will allow snow to stick to untreated pavement overnight.
MoDOT crews and Illinois transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check conditions before leaving home. Illinois road updates are available at gettingaroundillinois.com, while Missouri drivers can monitor traveler.modot.org or call 1-888-275-6636.
Snow should taper before sunrise Monday, but slick spots may linger into the early commute. Additional advisories remain possible if heavier snow bands develop overnight.
