Madison, WI – Snow is quickly coating highways across southern Wisconsin, creating slick travel conditions from Madison to Portage through Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Dane, Columbia, Iowa and Sauk counties until 6 p.m. Saturday. Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of snow, with locally higher totals possible in heavier bands.
The accumulating snow is impacting major routes including Interstate 90/94 near Wisconsin Dells, U.S. Highway 151 through Madison, and U.S. 12 toward Sauk City and Baraboo. Local roads in communities such as Lodi, Columbus, Dodgeville and Reedsburg are turning snow-covered as temperatures hold below freezing.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and avoid sudden lane changes. State officials urge motorists to check 511 before heading out and to delay non-essential travel if possible. Wet snow may also weigh down tree branches, leading to isolated power flickers.
Snow intensity is expected to taper toward early evening, but untreated roads could remain slippery into the night. Additional advisories are possible if bands linger longer than expected.
