Chicago, IL – A few lake effect flurries could dust parts of northeast Illinois tonight, especially near the Wisconsin state line and along the Lake Michigan shoreline, before a gradual warmup begins early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a 20% chance of non-accumulating flurries will linger near the Illinois-Wisconsin border this afternoon and redevelop near the northeast Illinois lakeshore tonight into Sunday. Temperatures will drop into the upper teens to mid-20s overnight, creating a cold start Sunday morning across Cook, Lake, DuPage, and McHenry counties.

Statewide, dry air settles in through Monday afternoon, keeping most of Illinois quiet but seasonably cool. Highs Sunday will range from 30 to 38 degrees, with slightly warmer readings south of I-80. Motorists along I-94 and U.S. 41 near the lake should remain alert for brief visibility reductions if flurries develop overnight.

By Monday, highs rebound into the upper 30s and mid-40s. A stronger warming trend follows Tuesday and Wednesday, when temperatures climb into the 40s and 50s. Rain chances increase midweek, especially near Lake Michigan where cooler lake air may hold temperatures down.

Residents should use the quieter stretch to prepare for wet roads by midweek and monitor updates as rain chances increase through Wednesday.
