Glasgow, Montana – Snow-covered highways across northeast Montana are slowing travel now, with reduced visibility and slick pavement reported along US-2 and MT-16 through late Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect as light snow continues to fall across the region. Roads are expected to stay snow-covered and slippery through at least 11 a.m. Saturday, particularly along US-2 from Chinook to the North Dakota line and along MT-16 south toward Glendive.
Across Phillips, Valley and Daniels counties, drifting snow may create uneven traction and brief visibility drops below one mile in open areas. The most persistent impacts are centered along US-2, a primary east-west corridor for commercial traffic, where untreated stretches could quickly refreeze. Elevated and rural segments of MT-200 and secondary county roads may also remain hazardous into the midday hours.
In Glasgow, drivers should expect packed snow on city streets and icy patches at intersections. Emergency managers urge caution on bridges and overpasses where colder deck temperatures allow snow to bond to the surface.
Motorists are advised to slow speeds immediately, avoid using cruise control and leave extra stopping distance between vehicles. Check Montana 511 for real-time road updates before departure and delay non-essential travel if possible until plows complete additional passes.
Light snow may taper late Saturday morning, but slick spots could linger into early afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if snowfall rates increase or drifting worsens across northeast Montana.
