North Carolina’s coastal plain is wrapped in mist this morning, and headlights glow through thick fog across Wilmington as visibility drops to near one mile in spots.

Temperatures hover around 47 degrees at Wilmington International Airport, with light northeast winds and saturated air in place. According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, areas of fog may reduce visibility to one mile or less at times through early this morning. Drivers along I-40, US-17, and Market Street should slow down and use low beams. Conditions can change quickly near marshes and bridges.

Skies gradually brighten late this morning. Highs climb to 65 degrees as clouds thin and sunshine returns. The fog threat fades by midday, but it could redevelop again toward early Sunday as winds go calm and skies partially clear. Lows settle near 43 tonight.

Sunday delivers a true spring tease. Sunshine pushes highs to 73 degrees with light southwest winds. March begins Sunday, and the warmer pattern continues into midweek. Sunday night cools to 42 under mostly cloudy skies.

Monday trends cooler with highs near 53 and northeast winds gusting to 21 mph. A slight 20 percent chance of showers develops after midnight Monday night. Temperatures rebound to 66 Tuesday and reach 74 by Wednesday under partly sunny skies.

While Arctic air grips parts of the Midwest and interior Appalachians, coastal North Carolina stays on the mild side of the pattern. Longer-range outlooks favor above-normal temperatures into early March, reinforcing early spring vibes across the Cape Fear region.

Daylight Saving Time begins March 8 at 2 a.m.
