North Carolina’s Crystal Coast is wrapped in thick fog this morning, and visibility has dropped to near one mile in spots around Morehead City.

Moist air sits over cooler ground, creating patchy drizzle and mist before late morning. According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, fog lingers through mid-morning before gradual clearing. Highs reach near 61 degrees today, with light north winds around 15 mph. Drivers along US-70 and the bridges toward Atlantic Beach should use low beams and allow extra space.

Fog may redevelop late tonight into early Sunday as winds calm and skies partially clear. Lows dip to around 41 degrees. By Sunday afternoon, sunshine returns and temperatures climb to 67 degrees, marking the start of a milder stretch as March begins.

Clouds increase again Sunday night with lows near 37. Monday turns cooler, with highs around 48 and northeast winds gusting up to 24 mph. A 30 percent rain chance develops late Monday night into early Tuesday. Highs rebound to 63 Tuesday and push to 70 by Wednesday under partly sunny skies.

While Arctic air pushes south across the Midwest and Appalachians, eastern North Carolina remains on the warmer side of the pattern. No snow or ice concerns are expected here, but dense fog can be just as disruptive for coastal travel.

Daylight Saving Time begins March 8 at 2 a.m., bringing longer evenings next week.
