Pennsylvania–Ohio–West Virginia Weather Alert Today: Snow and Freezing Rain Risk in Pittsburgh After Midnight
weather alert ice freezing rain

Pennsylvania – Sunshine feels mild across Pittsburgh this morning, but a quick-hitting late winter system is lining up to change the picture after midnight. Temperatures sit near 41 degrees now, and roads remain dry along I-376 and Route 28, yet that window will narrow by early Sunday.

If you have late-night or early Sunday travel plans, pay close attention. According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a system will bring a 40 percent chance of rain after midnight, mixing with snow after 5 a.m. Sunday. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible by daybreak.

While totals look light, freezing rain cannot be ruled out in pockets across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. A Winter Weather Advisory may be needed if ice becomes more widespread.

Sunday stays chilly with a high near 39 degrees and gradual clearing by afternoon. Sunday night turns sharply colder, with lows dropping to 18 degrees. Any leftover moisture could refreeze, raising flash freeze concerns on untreated roads and bridges.

Monday rebounds with sunshine and a high near 40. Another system arrives late Monday night into Tuesday. Snow may develop between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., then transition to rain or freezing rain. Precipitation chances jump to 90 percent Tuesday, with highs reaching 51 degrees.

March begins Sunday, and while winter still has a grip, a broader warming trend appears later next week. Highs could climb into the 60s by Thursday and near 70 by Friday as spring warmth builds.
