Davenport, Iowa – Drivers across eastern Iowa and western Illinois have a narrow window to prepare as light snow could begin affecting portions of Highway 34 and Interstate 80 by late Sunday afternoon, creating slick bridges and reduced visibility before 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a passing system will bring a chance for light accumulating snow Sunday afternoon through Sunday night, with southern counties in Iowa and areas along and south of Highway 34 facing the greatest potential for minor accumulation. While totals remain modest, up to 1 inch of snow could fall in localized bands.

The system is tracking south, which may limit broader impacts across the northern Quad Cities region, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline and Rock Island. Still, even a dusting can freeze quickly on elevated surfaces as temperatures dip into the 20s Sunday night. Motorists traveling on I-80, I-74 and U.S. 61 should prepare for patchy slick spots, especially on ramps and overpasses.

Farther south, Burlington and areas along Highway 61 could see steadier snowfall into the evening hours. Road crews in both Iowa and Illinois will monitor conditions, but untreated secondary roads may become slippery after sunset.

Temperatures rebound into the upper 30s and 40s early next week, shifting precipitation chances toward rain by Monday and Tuesday. Until then, drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check updated road conditions before heading out Sunday evening. Additional updates may be issued if snow coverage expands or travel impacts increase.
